Physical Activity Scholarships

Two new scholarships have been established at 91视频 thanks to a generous donation from donor Dr. Ellie Abdi. Each scholarship provides 鈧500 at the start of the Fall semester. They are available to second-semester freshmen as well as sophomores and juniors who are preregistered for the following semester with a clear intention to return.

Both awards are based on nominations from the Athletics Office, which are determined in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and the Dean of Student Development. The winners of these awards will be announced at the awards ceremony in the last week of April each year.

PAL (Physical Activity Leader) Scholarship

Awarded once a year to a captain or sports club leader who has led and motivated members with integrity and exemplary sportsmanship.

Captains and club leaders are held to specific leadership standards. Each team has two captains, who share an array of responsibilities. Physical activity club leaders, also called presidents, are responsible for an organization鈥檚 events and webpages. Both roles require students to lead by example and to communicate well, influencing the team鈥檚 or club鈥檚 success. This scholarship distinguishes the most reliable and exemplary students among captains and club leaders. Student recipients must meet the following criteria:

  • be either a captain or club leader during the academic year in question;
  • demonstrate hard work, good leadership and reliability;
  • Have good attendance, strong score in the Coaches鈥 Evaluation Form (for sports teams) and/or Participants鈥 Survey (for clubs)

In the case of a tiebreaker situation, a student鈥檚 GPS track may also be considered.

FAST (Financial Assistance for Students with Tenacity) Scholarship

Awarded to students who, despite the busy academic calendar and additional challenges of university life, engage regularly in sporting activities. Student nominees (selected by the Athletics Office Coordinator, the Dean of Student Development and the Deputy Director of Admissions and Financial Aid) will be invited to write a formal essay. In mid-April each year, a panel will choose an award recipient who best represents the spirit of this award. Student recipients must meet the following criteria:

  • be involved in regular physical activities;
  • obtain a minimum GPA of 3.0;
  • demonstrate financial need.
